As I sit here and watch the 25th Annual Children’s Medical Center Holiday Parade. I am reminded that many years ago today marks the day that I met one very special amazing person in my life. I thought that I would share the story.
I was listening to a Christian radio station out of Dallas, Texas. While driving down the road in my car headed to work and it was around the time that Christmas Wish started. I heard the Petrea Family tell their story about little Andrew. I literally had to pull over because I was in tears.
Andrew’s family had wrote in because Andrew was diagnosed with a brain tumor and a tumor on the spine at the age of 3. Andrew had a wish and it was to meet Batman and Robin and have Christmas cards flown in from all over the world. When the on-air DJ said to call in if you want to help grant this wish I did just that. I cleared my eyes and pulled myself together and dialed as fast as I could. I knew I wanted to help grant his wish. They said we will take care of the Batman and Robin if you will take care of the rest. I said great! So for many weeks I collected the cards from all over the world literally all over the world.
Then the first Saturday in December I worked the parade like I have for many years and then headed out to Medical Center Children’s Dallas after to meet and grant Andrews wish along with meeting The Petrea family. (Ronda Shipp Petrea , Misty Petrea Russell, Mike Petrea, Michael Russell, Kathy Russell), and be part of granting one of the many Christmas Wish’s.. I not only met a wonderful deserving little boy but I also met a sweet family.
Two points to be made here, God helped me bless a sweet little boy whom is still a fighter to this day and one of the strongest little boys I know and all of his sweet family, but he also blessed me in a way that made me want to continue to grant wishes and make dreams come true for others on a much larger scale. Random acts of kindness starts with YOU!!! Be the difference you want to see in the world today. It truly only takes a spark to get the true light shinning. Each year I still grant wishes.
